The view from West Rock in New Haven

Craig Houghton September 13th, 2007

I went to West Rock for lunch today. So, I took these pics of downtown New Haven and East Rock using a Sony DSC-H1 and an Opteka near IR filter. It seemed fitting — yesterday, I took some photos over by one of today’s subjects, East Rock. If you’re curious why everything looks all snowy, click here to learn more about near-infrared photography.

The Donkey King Returns to the Sea

Craig Houghton April 29th, 2007

I don’t think I can get away with naming this ‘The Donkey King Returns to the Sea,’ but until I get that kind of pretentious absurdity out of my system, it’ll stand.

This is just a quick oil-sketch rip-off of Daubigny’s The Lone Cow, which I think should be named The Cow Princess Returns to the Sea. I really didn’t spend enough time on this, but I kinda like it.

Earth Day Illustration

Craig Houghton February 12th, 2007

This is running along with an Earth Day story/press release. The mountain range is Sleeping Giant nearby in Hamden, CT. The lake and man-made waterfall are local as well. Really, the expanse would be filled with blacktop, apartments, and chain restaurants, but that’s not at all what I like about Hamden.

Here’s the run sized version:

I was going to start working on the mid-ground since I barely touched it, but I’d already taken too long and it looked decent enough when resized.
