This evening I watched Supervolcano on the Discovery channel. In the film a fictional high-ranking government official made a call that set politics aside and saved untold millions of people. Faced with the reality that FEMA and the rest of the gang could never reach the affected in time, the masses were told to 'Walk to Life' — supplies and transport would then facilitate the migration. If the people tried to wait it out while the administration claimed things were under control, they'd have perished as the ash cloud consumed much of the country. Back in the real world, Bush and his cronies still fail to face the ugly truth of their own failure to prepare for or respond to hurricane Katrina. Not only have they not set politics aside, the failure has been so perfect that I have to assume there's willful malice involved. Watch Greg Palast's fantastic segments on Katrina. They are absolutely worth the time: Part 1 and Part 2 from Democracy Now! Greg’s piece begins after a few moments of introduction. The disaster that followed the storm was foreseeable and emergency planning took a back-seat to fraud. The bullet had NOT been dodged and they knew it. It seems likely that Bush knew the federal levees were breached before the media did (federal as in the responsibility of the fed. government). Now, years later, the real effort being made has nothing to do with recovery and everything to do with a plan for a new and transformed New Orleans. You know, a nice place for the big wigs to vacation. They bottled up the survivors and turned away aid while people suffered and died. Don't assume you've seen all the Superdome coverage you'd ever need. Watch this clip straight through: Watch the WMV. Click here for the Crooks and Liars article.
