Two new meetings added to the video archive

~ by Craig Houghton - August 27, 2007 ~

Two new meetings have been added to the archive. Of course, the 21+ hours worth of video available here exists only to prove the concept. Cheshire needs an efficient, cost effective, and official web video solution. If YOU want this to happen, call, email, or write the Town Manager’s Office or members of the Cheshire Town Council . Tell them you want town meetings (at least Town Council and Planning and Zoning meetings) available over the internet. Tell them it’s a priority! If you don’t, there’s a good chance this may get shelved (perhaps until after the November election).

Considering the price, which is next to nothing if the town follows my proof-of-concept effort, it’s hard to imagine resistance to the idea. Would you vote for someone that intentionally derailed the process, perhaps hoping to keep democracy a bit ‘less messy’ until after the election?

So, I’d like to take a moment to really thank council member Tim White and all those who will support him in this effort to bridge the divide that exists between Cheshire’s town government and its busy residents. It’s easy to talk about getting people involved, but Tim took real action. If you haven’t, please take the time to visit his blog, Tim White Listens, to read his draft resolution.

Whereas, transparency in government is necessary to hold officials accountable, and

Whereas, holding officials accountable is necessary for good government, and

Whereas, new media allows for greater transparency in government via easier and speedier access to government information for a larger number of people,

Therefore, be it resolved, that the Town Council directs the Town Manager and requests the Town Council’s TV production consultant, Henry Chase, to upload the video recording of this Council meeting to the internet and to provide the video on the Town website’s homepage, and
